Mr. Pollard is on his way to England on

leave (he was due to start on October 16th);

and, though I have not been able to sound him

for this appointment in the ordinary way, I

understand that he would be glad to accept it.

If, therefore, the Secretary of State approves

my recommendation, the letter of selection

should be sent to Mr. Pollard on his arrival

in England.

I am afraid that it will not be possible

for Mr. Pollard to leave for Hong Kong before

February at earliest; but there is no need

for Mr. Dallin to postpone his departure on

that account.

Mr. Hamilton will be there and can act

as Auditor until Mr. Pollard arrives.
